Genioplasty: gbogbo ohun ti o nilo lati mọ nipa mentoplasty

A profiloplasty cosmetic surgery intervention allowing the chin to be reshaped, genioplasty can correct an advanced chin or, on the contrary, that would be too elusive in order to restore the balance of the face from the front or from the side.

Chin surgery: what is genioplasty?

Also called mentoplasty, genioplasty is a technique for changing the appearance of the chin. A first appointment with a cosmetic surgeon will determine the most suitable intervention as well as the aesthetic actions to be carried out to restore the harmony of the face. The harmony of the face is objectively determined by “an ideal vertical line which descends from the forehead, passing through the nose to the base of the chin. When the chin goes beyond this vertical line it becomes protruding (prognath), whereas if it is located behind this line it is said to be “elusive” (retrogenic), ”explains Dr Belhassen on his official website.

There are two types of mentoplasty interventions:

  • genioplasty to advance a receding chin;
  • genioplasty to reduce a chin galoche.

Mentoplasty to move a chin back

According to the Clinique des Champs-Elysées, two techniques are currently used to reduce a chin in galoche. If the chin is slightly prognathic, the surgeon will plane the jaw bone with a file in order to restore harmony at the level of the projection of the chin.

If the galoche chin is more pronounced, the surgeon will cut a part of the bone judged in excess before reattaching the front of the chin using metal screws or mini-plates.

Bring forward a receding chin

A silicone prosthesis can be inserted by the doctor in the bone of the lower jaw. After healing, it will be concealed by fat and muscles for a natural result.

A second option can be offered by the specialist. It is a technique of bone grafting. The sample can be taken in addition to a rhinoplasty with bone removal from the nose, or from the pelvis area for example. The transplant is then performed on the chin in order to reshape it.

Genioplasty is performed by the endo-oral route, most often under general anesthesia and lasts about 1 hour 30 minutes. A two-day hospitalization is generally recommended by the surgeon.

Wearing a reshaping bandage, responsible for maintaining the area after the operation, is prescribed for a period of 5 to 8 days. It takes about two to three months before you get the final result of mentoplasty.

Risks and possible complications

Some patients observe a decrease in sensitivity in the chin and lower lip for a few days. Bruises and swelling can also appear in the hours and days following the operation.

Genipolasty without surgery

When the chin is slightly receding, a non-invasive aesthetic medicine technique can be performed. Targeted hyaluronic acid injections will be enough to modify the projection and give more volume to the chin.

Hyaluronic acid is a biodegradable substance, the effects will wear off after 18 to 24 months depending on the person. The procedure does not require hospitalization and takes place in just a few minutes.

How long does chin surgery cost?

The price of a genioplasty varies from one cosmetic surgeon to another. Count between 3500 and 5000 € for the intervention and hospitalization. This operation is not covered by Health Insurance.

For genioplasty without hyaluronic acid injection surgery, the price varies depending on the number of syringes needed to reshape the chin. Count around 350 € for a syringe. Again, prices may vary depending on the practitioner.
