Macular degeneration – Our doctor’s opinion

The treatment of age-related macular degeneration has made remarkable progress in recent years. It is possible to slow the progression of the disease. Some people with wet macular degeneration may even recover some of their vision.

However, it takes persistence. Treatments with antiangiogenic drugs have to be repeated every month and are unpleasant to use. It is a treatment which requires a very close follow-up.

Even with these treatments, many people end up losing their central vision. For these people, there are many aids that allow them to function relatively normally.

Fortunately, no one goes completely blind with this disease.
